PnPAuthors requested Dawn tell a little bit about
herself, and this is what you told us.
I am the eldest of two daughters. Both of my
parents have degrees in Education. I have a degree in Computer Science. My
sister has a degree in Veterinary Medicine.
While in school,
I discovered I had a talent for writing poetry. Several teachers encouraged me
to keep writing. My work appeared in the school newspapers. It was a lot of
fun.
When I graduated
from college, my love for poetry was on the back burner. Had to make a living.
I founded a computer store in my local town. Ran it for seventeen years.
Now, I am
pursuing my passion. Meeting people with the same interest has truly inspired
me. I am growing all of the time. Finding new ways of expressing myself.
Wonderful!
When did you write your first book?
I began in the
fall of 2006. What lead you to do so?
I started the project while I was still working. However, in the summer of
2006, I was very ill, and no longer able to work. Spent two months in the
hospital. After I got home, started typing and organizing the poetry. This
became one of my personal therapies. I’m not much of a couch potato so it was
an outlet for me. I like to stay busy. The first edition was published in 2007
and revised for the second edition in 2008.
What was the
most difficult part of writing your book?
I wanted to compile my best work in this first book. Mom helped gather up
all of the scraps of paper that I had written on over the years. As I had time,
I typed in each poem. I organized them by the year they were written, and then
by subject. Once they were all in, the ones I thought the best were selected
for the book.
This was the hardest part. First, to get everything organized, and then
choose among your children. What I might think was the best, might not be for
the reader. I guess time will tell if I chose right.
What blogs do
you belong to and are they blogs that support you book.
The blogs that I listed above have my book on them for promotion.
What is the
address to your book?
When did you
join PnPAuthor?
I joined in March, 2013. This is an incredible website. Pattimari and
Peter gave me the opportunity to explore other voices. I was able to collaborate
on science fiction and mystery novels. Enjoyed sharing ideas with them and the
other writers on this site.
What are you
working on now?
I am working on a collaboration of poetry with Maria Kontaxis. The book
will be titled I Will Fly. We are writing inspirational poems for people
who have been affected by tragedies in their lives. The poems are both from our
lives and our imaginations. We want the readers to know that you can survive a
tragedy and be able to return to a normal life. Happiness will come with time.
The book will be out by Christmas this year. We are hoping to promote it
worldwide. Maria lives in Australia, and I am in the USA. She has quite a
following and I as well.
There will also be a calendar for this Christmas. It is a nature calendar
which showcases new poetry that has been inspired by Mom’s amazing photography.
We live near the forest and have many chances to capture nature’s incredible
beauty.
Both projects will be available through Amazon.
